In May, STACEES will publish its interdisciplinary Sustainability Series.
Written by professional writers, the series will comprise ten 1000 word articles based on engaging research on sustainability at the University of St Andrews. The articles will feature on the University’s new outward-facing sustainability website with opportunities to showcase on other platforms and in other communications. While our writers will ensure coherence and continuity across the series, we want to illustrate the disciplinary diversity of sustainability research at the University.
St Andrews’ definition of ‘sustainability research’ is broad and includes (among others):
- climate inequality
- political ecology
- ecocriticism
- environmental humanities
- sustainability
- climate change
- energy
- ecosystems
- biodiversity
- development
- anthropogenic impacts on ecosystems, biodiversity and populations
We encourage researchers at all career stages (including postgraduates) to apply. We also welcome pitches
from research groups and in relation to sustainability initiatives at the University more generally.

Our writers and the writing process:
Martin Ince will write articles in the sciences and social sciences.
Garry MacKenzie will write articles in the arts, humanities and social sciences.
The STACEES Coordinators will select the most engaging and innovative entries and will inform all entrants of the outcome by Friday 2nd April.
In early April, we will ask the selected researchers to complete a short questionnaire and our writers will be in contact with researchers to ensure efficiency and accuracy in the writing process. We aim to complete the articles by May.
